March Bunco Hosted by Vicky

I pulled together and hosted Bunco with less than 48 hours notice!  Lorretta had come down with a nasty cold, and took a much needed rest and pass on hosting in March.  I called Smoky Mountain Pizza in Mountain Home and asked if we could use their party room, thankfully it was available and we slid right in, loud and proud taking over and rolling dice!

Lorretta will host on April 17 at her home.

December Bunco Hosted By Toni

The entire group was together for our December Christmas Bunco, first time in 2023 we all were together!  What fun we had!

Toni made an amazing dinner for us of pulled pork, beans, slaw, apple pucker jello shots, and ice cream/brownie/caramel sundaes!  We exchanged $10 gift cards around the tables for a new twist this year.  Toni spoiled the winners with prizes, and the losers with socks. No snow, no fog, and it was so fabulous to be together!

Our 2024 calendar and hostesses are set.  Looking forward to seeing everyone on Jan 17 at Toni's.

November Bunco Hosted by Bonnie and Dorene

Can we spin on a dime and regroup when we need to?  Yes we can!  Krisann was scheduled to host this month, but due to family concerns, she had to take an excused absence.  I reached out to Bonnie and Dorene who gladly said they would host .... Bonnie opened her home for us, and Dorene was head chef.  It worked out wonderfully.

It was a fun night, lots of laugher, talking and friends taking care of friends.

For our December 13th Bunco at Toni's, we are asking that each player bring a $10 gift card to exchange.  We will place our gift card at our table place, and the winners of each round will pick a gift card that they will take to the next table.  Continue until the game ends.  Same concept as we've done in the past with earrings and ornaments, but this year with $10 gift cards.  Cha-Ching!

Thanks to Patty and Sandie for subbing this month.  We missed Dawn, Krisann, Rose and Toni.

October 2023 Bunco Hosted by Lisa * Bunco for Breast Cancer Night!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  It's important to get your mammograms and if you don't have the funds for a mammogram, you can ask for patient assistance through the St. Luke's Health Foundation

This month, our small group of Bunco players decided to donate our "kitty" and also make individual donations to the St. Luke's Elmore Foundation for breast cancer screenings.  A little money here and there goes a long way.  Thanks to our long time players for stepping up with cash and checks to help others needing screenings.  Also, thanks to the staff at St. Luke's for contributing merch for the swag bags!

Our Mountain Home group of friends started the original Bunco for Breast Cancer in 2004, 19 years ago, and hosted it yearly for seven years.  In those seven years, we raised approximately $37,000 which was donated to the St. Luke's Health Foundation.  We saw first hand how our dollars were used.  One player in 2005 had never had a mammogram, no funds for a mammogram, and when she learned she could apply, she did so through her local physician.  The next year, she didn't show up to play Bunco with us.  We were told she did in fact have a mammogram and was found to have breast cancer.  She spent the next year in treatment.  The following year, she returned to our BFBC event, carrying a pink ribbon blanket she had made for our raffle, sporting her short hair from the effects of chemo.  She was smiling, happy to be with us, and thankful for our fund raising efforts which allowed her to receive a mammogram, which probably saved her life.

Small town, grass roots, big donations, small donations, all add up to taking care of one another.  Cindy Terriberry, St. Luke's Elmore Foundation Board member (and my old Mountain Home neighbor), was on hand for the photo op!

Thank you, all!
Vicky

September 2023 Bunco Hosted by Dawn

September was a night of firsts!

First time playing Bunco at Dawn's beautiful new home!

First time I got a flat tire doing 80 MPH on the interstate from Boise to Mountain Home. I think I hit a tool, an instrument, a monkey wrench, who knows, but whatever it was punctured a big hole in my right rear tire.

First time I was towed to Costco for two new tires.  Shout-out to Toni for reminding me to call Rob at Shorty's Towing who towed us to Costco in Boise where I bought the tires.  Rob was our hero - AKA - Highway Hooker!

First time Rose and I dined at Costco together waiting for the tires to be replaced.  Oh, how we missed Dawn's spaghetti bake!

Rose and I escaped serious injury....no wreck thank goodness, but we missed a night of fun with the girls.

Lisa is hosting on October 18, and asks that we wear our favorite Halloween costumes!

August 2023 Bunco Hosted by Fran

We're back! After a brief summer hiatus, we're back and in full rolling mode!

Fun night, great food (thanks Fran, and I'm posting a picture of your cucumber recipe), and a big decision was made as a group.

The 50/50 prize will be retired, eliminated, and has gone bye-bye.  We don't need another person's stuff after cleaning out the pantry, junk drawer and over flowing closets.  Lorretta was the very lucky recipient of our last 50/50 prize and what a summer basket of goodies!  Produce from Fran's garden was great!

The sunset was spectacular as Rose and I were headed out of town.  Sunsets always bring a peaceful moment.

Dawn will be our host on September 20.

May 2023 Bunco Hosted by Tammy

Gobbler Cobbler is still a winner in May....who says we have to wait until November to enjoy this savory dish?  Unanimous opinion this is one of our favorite meals!  Thanks to Tammy who shopped and cooked this month, got her house ready, tables up and cold beverages for the 12 of us! We had a crazy amount of buncos, snake eyes and total points tonight and we only played 10 rounds!  A fun evening and a great picture taken in Tammy's gorgeous back yard as the sun was going down and Bennett mountain as a backdrop.

  • Shout out to Tom who helped Tammy as her hip and knee are talking loudly to her. Ouchie.
  • Good luck to Bonnie as she has shoulder surgery in June before we meet again.
  • Congratulations to Dorene as she retires in a few weeks!

April 2023 Bunco Hosted by Dorene

The sun came out, but the temperature was C O L D on this April day!

I was able be Tammy's personal GPS and guide her to Dorene's house using FaceTime and standing in the middle of Phelps Circle to get her to Bunco!  We missed five players tonight, and still managed to play 12 rounds, talk a lot about Wordle, Phoodle, Dordle, Quordle, Absurdle, Beadle, cell phone plans and outrageous pricing, the Lori Vallow trial and the amazing reporting with live minute-by-minute transcripts from East Idaho News, and Nate Eaton - Reporter (you can follow him on Facebook).

January 2023 Bunco Hosted by Rose and Vicky

Our original gang was all in the house this month!  This doesn't happen very often, and I was glad to see everyone.  Missed Lorretta and Sandy who were out of town.

Rose and I prepped and rode through the desert from Meridian/Boise to Mountain Home, and we were very happy to host this month.  Thanks to Krisann and Dawn for helping us secure the Mountain Home RV Park clubhouse so we could host Bunco there for the past few months.  Happy to hear that they both will be moving into their new homes this month and out of their RVs!

Rose and I talked about how we'd like get our group together, just to visit and catch-up, this summer maybe in July, for those that can attend.  Either Rose or I would host at our homes.  No Bunco.  Talking, eating and drinking only!  Stay tuned on this thought.....

Hot soup, beautiful ornaments and wonderful friends met on Thursday to play our Christmas Bunco.  We scored the Mountain Home RV park rec room once again and had a fantastic evening.  Even the snowman from many Christmas' ago attended!  Rose presented the little snowy guy to Dawn, who then promptly lost him!  Fingers crossed he didn't melt!

See you on January 18, 2023, at 630 pm at the Mountain Home RV park rec room as this will be the last Bunco that Krisann and Dawn will be RVing it!  Rose and Vicky will host Bunco in January.

A big official welcome to Sandy who has joined our Bunco group!  We have 14 members now, and with absences every now and then, having 14 players hopefully will give us full tables.  We had two ghosts just last night, and missed Fran, Kris, Toni, and Dawn.

Congratulations to Lisa for her recognition from KTVB for being an innovative educator!  Lisa was also selected as State VFW and National VFW teacher of the year!  Proud of you, Lisa!

I miss taking our monthly pictures with my camera.  When I use my iPhone to take our 'timed' picture, the picture is blurring, not crisp like when someone takes the actual picture using the phone, or my old Canon camera.  One bright spot is blurry means wrinkles aren't as noticeable.  😉

Our friends were so excited to get together for a regular Bunco night in March, 2022. We've waited a long time during the pandemic to regroup.  Toni hosted, prepared a delicious chicken casserole, salad, and a light and refreshing Strawberry Icebox Pie.  We hugged, we talked (a lot) and rolled the dice for a few rounds.  The world has changed, but this group is back together again at last!

Sandy joined us and wants to continue to play, so we have another friend added to our group!

Paint Night | July 28 2021

It's summer and we haven't seen each other in person for SO long!  Brenda Raub, our very talented artist and teacher in Mountain Home, was convinced to instruct us on painting our beloved but long gone Doughnut Tree which was located on East 8th North near our current golf course.  When the golf course was expanded, as well as the widening of East 8th North, the doughnut tree was taken out, limb by limb, to the dismay of nearly everyone living in Mountain Home.  It was a cool place to hang out, bike to, walk to, and picnic under.

Local photographer Jerry Kencke took a picture of the doughnut tree just after the eruption of Mt. Saint Helen's in Washington in May, 1980.  His picture captured the ashen skies which cast a shadow over the top of the tree.  Brenda used that picture as a model for us to paint.

I think we did rather well with our colors and dab-dab-dabs of paint on canvas!  Remember, art is the in eye of the beholder!

August 2020 Virtual Bunco

Welcome to Season 6 of Virtual Bunco.  Blame it on the stupid pandemic.   We haven't met and played Bunco in person since February 2020.  In order to keep us spring chickens healthy, we've been meeting virtually to keep our connections open..

This month, Bonnie and Lorretta met at Bonnie's house and joined our video together.  Bonnie is enjoying her first month of retirement and happy that alarm clocks are a thing of the past.  Lorretta is selling her sail boat (we joined her in a moment of sadness), BUT she and Blake will be getting a family pontoon boat!  Can we have Bunco on a pontoon boat?  Asking for a friend.

Dawn joined us in the middle of her work detail of keeping the power grids on due to fires in western Idaho.  We also saw her newest living room decoration, shop vac, as she and Lynn prepare to declutter, sell their current home and build a new home.  She and "Junior" will be living the RV life here shortly.

Lisa was excited to show us her newest toy, a full size quilting machine, so she can create and make beautiful, cozy quilts, all in her spare time of teaching 1st graders. Thank you Lisa for continuing to teach our children, online and in person.

Krisann continues to be nestled in her RV and was busy clicking her knitting needles.  Such talent!

Nothing big from my camp except I continue to wear stretch pants with my chocolate covered almond consumption.

Lisa suggested we get together in person in September - YAY!  Staying safe and physical distancing, and being outdoors.   If we don't capture a September date, we may not see each other as the cold weather nears and daylight hours are short.  Stay tuned for details.

July 2020 Virtual Bunco

Hot diggity!
We had eight of us on our July Bunco video chat.  Lisa dropped off, must have been the wine.

This month's winners:
  • Toni
  • Tammy B
  • Tammy H
  • Bonnie
  • Lorretta
  • Dorene
  • Lisa
  • Vicky
Seems like Facebook Messenger Video tool has been the best for our group video chats.
Easy.  We like easy.

Updates from our friends -

Toni R
Toni gave us a tour of her fish pond.  The koi are huge and beautiful!  Desi and her family are moving into a newly built home in Mountain Home, as is Kelsey and her family moving into a new home in Nampa.  The Ranch Club that Tyler runs is still closed as it's considered a club, and he and his family have moved in with Toni.  Yuck. Don't like hearing the news that his business is struggling so.

Tammy B
Her four grand kids are in Missouri for the summer so her house has quieted down.  She said she stays busy, but not sure what she does to make the hours tick by.  Isn't that the case of retirement?  😉

Bonnie
We were so happy to see Bonnie!  This was Bonnie's first video chat with us and it was wonderful.  Lorretta and Dorene helped Bonnie get set up for the call.  But, most importantly, Bonnie has retired from the Mountain Home School District after 43 years of service.  Congratulations Bonnie for your dedication, and keeping your sanity after working with students, teachers and administrators for 43 years!

Tammy H
Tammy is busy making masks for her grand kids.  Who knows if school will be in session this fall, or if the year 2525 will fall right after 2020. Who knows? Keep making those masks!  Tammy also canceled out of the golf clinic she was scheduled to attend with other lady golfers.  Obviously it would have been fun, but not worth the risk of catching the virus.  Your priorities are spot on.

Lorretta
"Perfect Pitch", Lorretta and Blake's beautiful sail boat, will be sold at the end of this summer.  Many great memories on Payette Lake, but she said it's time to not worry about winds and equipment and  move on to a family Pontoon boat!  Continued memories to be made on the water.  I think it's pretty darn awesome that you have a home and boat in the mountains!

Dorene
Dorene joined us from Bonnie's to make sure Bonnie was connected this evening.  Dorene is always looking after Bonnie!  What a great friend!

Lisa
Lisa was a little late to the party as she was "napping".  Very soon after joining our chat, we saw a BIG bottle of wine she was helping herself too - maybe a little early birthday celebration?  Happy Birthday, Lisa!  Hope Mark prepares your lobster dinner to perfection!

Vicky
I provided a quick update about COVID surge numbers St. Luke's hospitals were seeing.  Hospitalizations of COVID positive  patients have increased substantially over the last week.

Remember the 3 Ws -
  • Wear a cloth face covering
  • Wash your hands
  • Wait at least six feet apart - avoid close contact
You cannot speed through a school zone
Seat belts are in place to save lives
WEAR YOUR DAMN MASK!

We need solidarity.  We need humanity vs. the virus

My final thoughts were how much I / we need to connect.  The isolation, pandemic fear, anxiety, all wear on us. Thanks to this great group of friends for joining our video chats - we are here for each other if anyone needs anything
